Welcome to Kungshamn – Åsen school and project Eureka.

Eureka is the name of a project which has been active in Kungshamn – at the Åsen school – since September 2002. Eureka’s purpose is to integrate various forms of artistic expression, such as art, music, dance and drama, with teaching  - thereby forming a bridge between concrete and abstract thought processes.

The project was initially financed by the organisation Framtidens Kultur and by Sotenäs Local Authority. Since 2005, Sotenäs Local Authority is acting as the main source of financial support. We also get finincial support from Bovallstrands Rör AB and SMögens Havsbad.

Since 2003, we’ve been employing a method which has come to play an increasingly important role in our work. This is the Ronnie Gardiner Rhythm Method, RGRM, which is a multisensory rhythm exercise.

You can see a short film from our daily work
Watch movie, fast connection is recommended (movie 9.38 minutes, opens in a new window).

NEWS: There is a recent written book available about the project´s basic ideas and relation to actual research. There are also descriptions of how to plan lectures where art has a central role in education. It can be downloaded here as PDF.

In the Autumn of 2005, a book of inpiration based on experiences from the project, written by project leader Gunnel Berlin, and with illustrations by the children involved, was published by Ekelunds (Gleerups).

We were awarded the prize for best schools development project at the schools forum in Stockholm, Sweden, which was held during the period 30 October – 1 November 2006.

Aside from the project’s everyday work with students and the school’s own teaching staff, we organise courses for teachers, student teachers and other interested parties. Please contact us by e-mail for further details.
